| http://fotoristo.com/uggoutletgood.html The American Medical Association is warning girls not to go wild during spring break, CBS News correspondent Jim Chenevey reports.Almost confirming what goes on in those "Girls Gone Wild" videos, 83 percent of college women and graduates surveyed from the AMA said spring break involves heavier-than-usual drinking, and 74 percent said the trips cause increased sexual activity.Sizable numbers reported getting sick from drinking, and blacking out and interesting in unprotected sex or sex using more than one partner, activities that grow their risks for sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies, Chenevey reports.The AMA is wanting to call attention to underage drinking among women because their bodies process alcohol differently and place them at greater risk for health problems, Dr. J. Edward Hill, AMA's president, said Tuesday.The AMA-commissioned paid survey queried a nationwide random sample of 644 college women or graduates ages 17 to 35 last week.Kathleen Fitzgerald, a 21-year-old junior at Illinois State University, said the AMA's effort to boost awareness is a good idea, but probably will not do much to curb drinking during spring break."I think a lot of students wouldn't really pay very much attention to it," Fitzgerald said. "They would likely be like, `Duh, that's why we do it."'About Thirty percent of women surveyed said springbreak trips with sun and alcohol are a crucial part of college life.Also, 74 percent said women use spring time drinking as an excuse for "outrageous" behavior how the AMA said could include public nudity and dancing on tables.With the 27 percent who said that they attended a college spring break trip:More than half said they regretted getting sick from drinking about the trip.About 40 percent said they regretted fainting or not remembering what they did.13 percent said that they sexual activity with more than one partner.10 % said they regretted engaging in public or group sexual practice.More than half were underage when they first drank alcohol with a spring break trip.The AMA said the findings highlight the requirement of alternative spring break activities. For example, the University of Nebraska, Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., along with the University of Wisconsin offer spring time "service" trips.Gemma Kite, a 21-year-old Lehigh junior, is Brunswick, Ga., for spring break this week, helping build a house for Habitat for Humanity."It's a lot fun. We're working outside under the sun," Kite said.She said most students see spring break as "your possiblity to go wild and crazy in the different country where anybody's going to know you." Kite admitted those trips have a certain appeal, and she hopes to take a more party-oriented vacation the coming year."I like to have my fun," Kite said.

The Early Show medical correspondent Dr. Emily Senay says that's because, as hard as it is to give up smoking, it's even harder whenever you don't have any support.Senay suspects a lot of people overlook support groups when they're trying to quit.The American Lung Association are a wide proponent of smoking cessation groups. The association itself has one, called "Freedom From Smoking." Many towns have local support groups. You can contact yours to locate a program near you, or you can find groups through the lung association and the American Cancer Society.Just being around other smokers who want to quit can help tremendously, Senay indicates.And support from your family and also the people around you can give you that extra push to hold going, and not to reach with the cigarette, she saysUsing nicotine replacement therapy can double (or often even triple) a smoker's chance of quitting successfully. There are several over-the-counter products that can help, including nicotine gum, patches and, most recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration, lozenges.They all work on the same principle, Senay explains. They assist relieve some of the withdrawal symptoms you experience when you quit smoking by delivering a low dose of nicotine in your system.Such symptoms are generally hard to overcome. They include irritability, headaches, cravings, a sore throat, dry mouth, and even tightness with the chest.Those products can help soften those symptoms and provide you more of a chance of success. no previous page next 1/2
